Cross-Cultural ‘Encounter’ Experiences and Neurohormonal Transmission

By Joseph Durwin

Part V & References

Suggestion for Further Research

It is now clear that a systematic body of data gathered in several fields over the past several decades supports the contention that the experience of first-hand contact with intelligent nonhuman entities, evidenced cross-culturally, may have a neuro-chemical correlate. The clinical effects of DMT have been demonstrated to be able to recreated all the major visual and psychological components of this experience; likewise, it has been demonstrated that conditions in the brain could cause it to spontaneously reproduce this chemical effect via pineal gland secretions.

What is needed is controlled research into the neuro-chemical status of recent abductees. One possible type of experiment might involve measuring the levels of DMT in the blood following an encounter experience. Because these experiences are frightening and sometimes repressed, and because of the extreme quickness with which DMT is broken down in the body, this first type of study might be more difficult to organize. Another possibility is to administer an MAO Inhibitor, such as Narplan or Harmine HCL, to subjects who report frequent experiences with entities or missing time. This might have the effect of lengthening the experience while also preserving DMT levels in the blood longer for measurement. In any case, it is clear that before much of consequence can be known about this experience, the veil of terror that seems to surround this experience must be peeled back.

** Another possible study, suggested to me in personal correspondence with Rick Strassman, would be to administer a dose of DMT to seasoned abductees for the purpose of comparing its effect to their experiences. Also profitable would be a study establishing the corresponding chemical reaction to Persinger's ELF generating helmet.
